Getting to Opava
Opava lies in the north-east part of the country, in the Moravian-Slesian Region. It is easily accessible by rail, but you can get here on road as well. Those not too far off can use cycle routes and get to Opava on bike.
By rail
Although there is a direct connection between Opava and Olomouc (a scenic route that takes you through the Jeseníky Mountains), the main train connection is the electrified line between Opava and Ostrava. The regional capital is easily accessible thanks to its advantageous location on the main corridor. Trains from Ostrava run approximately twice per hour. Depending on the type of train, the journey takes from 20 to 30 minutes.
The Opava Východ Station is within a walking distance from the town centre (Janská Street). In addition, there is a bus station and public transport stops outside the railway station, which makes it a true transport hub.
By coach
Coaches connecting Opava with the rest of the country are run by private companies. The coaches go mainly from and to the Jeseníky Mountains, the Vítkov Region, and Ostrava. The main junction for coaches is outside the railway station Opava Východ, in Nákladní Street, or at hospital.
By road
Opava can be reached by three main routes – in the direction of Krnov, Olomouc, and Ostrava. Single carriageways connect Opava with Olomouc and Krnov. There is a dual carriageway connecting Opava and Ostrava.
On bike
With the opening of cycle route 55, it is now possible to get to Opava on bike. The Silesian Artery runs through Opava from Krnov and Jeseník to Hlučín, where it joins a supranational cycle route 5 called the Amber Route, which connects the Baltic Sea with the Adriatic Sea measuring almost 2,000 km.
By air
Opava lies approximately 50 km from Leoš Janáček Airport in Mošnov offering both regular and charter flights. There is a direct bus connecting the airport with Ostrava, and there is a train connection with Ostrava Svinov via Studénka. Another option is the airport in Katowice in Poland, which lies about 150 km from Opava and which offers connections to several dozens of airports throughout Europe. There is a direct bus connection from Katowice to Ostrava, and then to Opava.
