Subscription Concerts for Classical Music Lovers

A regular subscription series for classical music lovers in Opava was established in 1946 as Music Wednesdays, initially organized by Cyril Vymětal and later by Emílie Bednařiková and Věra Slámová in collaboration with Jiří Čech and Tomáš Thon. From 1996, Petr Rotrekl and Petr Hanousek prepared a ten-part cycle of chamber, organ, and orchestral music. In 2025, the Opava Cultural Organization took over the organization of the concert cycle. The ambition is to offer extraordinary musical experiences in the most attractive and acoustically interesting halls in the city. The organizers and dramaturges of the series have established cooperation with major music festivals – the Leoš Janáček International Music Festival, the St. Wenceslas Music Festival, the Beethoven Hradec competition, and the Petr Eben International Organ Competition – and can thus present outstanding artists and ensembles from the Czech Republic and abroad. Subscribers and lovers of classical music can look forward to Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic music, as well as 20th-century compositions with elements of folk, jazz, and alternative music. The performers include young musicians and winners of international music competitions.
